Lake Geneva Youth Camp is rather unique in that our summer programs are primarily staffed by volunteers - from our program teams and counselors, and to all other support staff. Why would 400 people give up a week of vacation to serve at a youth camp? Because they love Jesus Christ, they love kids, and they want kids to love Jesus Christ. Most of our summer staff have grown up at LGYC, or have been introduced to camp by someone who has. Though we know most of our summer staff personally, everyone completes an application and provides us with two character references. We take very seriously the fact that you are entrusting you child to us and expect them to be safe and secure while they are here.
We strive to have two counselors in every cabin of ten campers, one of which may be a junior counselor in training. Our Program Directors oversee the counselors during the week. Our program teams will often consist of six to eight adults, many of whom are teachers.
There is a registered nurse at every week of camp. She is prepared to meet the special medical needs of your child so they can safely enjoy their camp experience.
Our waterfront activities are manned by Red Cross trained lifeguards. Swimming tests are given on the first day of camp and the buddy system is used throughout the week.
Many moms and dads volunteer to work in Handcraft, the Nature Center, the Canteen, or the kitchen. When you add all these people up, we often have a ratio of one staff member for every three campers. Our staff is committed to making your child's week at camp a very positive experience. As much as they want each camper to experience a great program, enjoy good meals, or stay in safe, clean buildings, there is something that they desire far more. They want every camper to experience the love of Jesus Christ, and enter into a life-changing relationship with Him. That is why they give of their time to serve here at LGYC.
