Set Apart: Making Time for Faith and Family

The beginning of the school year is notoriously full. Fall sports, activities, back-to-school nights, homework, chauffeuring, shuffling kids around town, it my busy season for work… it’s a lot. It can feel nearly impossible to find time to step away from the calendar.

But I think that’s all the more reason I’m so grateful for Unplugged Labor Day Family Camp. This was our first time going.

Before the routines had a chance to settle in, we got to intentionally step away from the noise and “set our minds on things above” (Colossians 3:2), the theme verse for our weekend at camp. What a gift to have that as the foundation for our family before the hustle and bustle of fall really kicked in.

From zip lines to bonfire s’mores, from tubing on the lake to a carnival under the stars, our memories are as full as our hearts.

I love that camp creates room for all of it: adventure, laughter, and time together. But even more than that, having the opportunity to pause and refocus on faith and family is invaluable.

My kids (and I!) are already counting down the days until we can unplug together again for the Unplugged Winter Family Retreat.

Last year was our first time at the Winter Retreat, and just like Labor Day Family Camp, it was such a timely recharge for us as a family: skiing (my kid’s first time! They loved it!), the indoor waterpark, tubing (this time on snow), games by the fireplace, hot cocoa, chapel… it was all the intention we’ve loved about Labor Day family camp but in the winter.

So thankful for Lake Geneva Youth Camp and the opportunities to take time set apart as a family for life changing experiences through Christ at camp!
